University appointment for Coller IP Management

Coller IP Management has recently been appointed to evaluate the commercial potential of the intellectual capital generated by Newcastle University. The review not only considers those inventions for which Newcastle holds patent applications, but also considers the wider potential contained within the ideas and know-how arising from each of the academic departments. With commitment at the highest level from the pro-vice chancellor, Newcastle University is keen to optimise its approach to commercialisation. Newcastle University is selectively building areas of internationally-leading pure and applied research which, wherever possible, are being translated into societal benefit, industrial edge and economic impact. These areas include Stem Cells and Human Genetics, Ageing, Cancer, Cell & Molecular Biosciences, Energy, the Environment, New Electronic Materials, Sensors and Devices, Catalysis and Intensified Chemical Processing, Molecular Engineering, Software Reliability, Linguistics, Creative Writing and The History of Medicine.

Using its University Research Institutes, www.ncl.ac.uk/research/institutes/institutes , University Research Centres www.ncl.ac.uk/research/institutes/urc and Schools www.ncl.ac.uk/subjects/schools , the University is nurturing areas of research excellence across all three of its Faculties (Medical Sciences, Science, Agriculture and Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences) and Coller IP Management is helping to shape the commercialization strategy going forward.
