University IP paper published by Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills
John Denham has today published nine contributions he has received on the future of Higher Education.
The contributions make recommendation to government and to universities on how the UK's Higher Education system should develop over the next 10-15 year to ensure it is world-class. Mr Denham said:
"The publication of these reports completes phase one of our debate on the future of higher education."
Intellectual Property is recognised as one of the important issues and Professor Paul Wellings, Vice Chancellor of Lancaster University has been asked to investigate how universities should use and manage IP for their own benefit and for the benefit of the wider economy.
The published report notes that "it is clear that UK institutions have a poor level of US patenting and a weak income derived from licences, options, assignments (LOA) relative to the other economies"
