Securing the deal

In it’s July edition, ACQ Magazine asked three due diligence specialists for advice on signing a contract in the current market.

Jackie Maguire, CEO of Coller IP Management was one of them.

How difficult is it to assess risk when dealing with transactions in this current economic climate?

Assessing risk at the moment requires excellent vision and the ability to consider the existing and potential strength of the intangibles that underpin a business
proposition. This is the key to delivering the vision for a sustainable business in the current economic climate.

In your opinion, where do you feel the leading sectors are in terms of potential investment?

Communication and life style technologies continue to inspire interest amongst investors together with a focus on low energy, clean technologies and health
care. The signs are pointing to this continuing to be a focus for the year to come.

What transactions have you been involved with this year?

In a world with limited finance, transactions for our clients in the past year have been cautious. They have tended to focus on niche investments where specific
court action has enhanced the buyer’s wish to conclude a deal, or where a distressed sale or equity share offer has raised the chances of a higher return on investment.
