Developing an IP Strategy
The old adage by Shakespeare – that “some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them” could be said to apply to businesses just as much as it does to people. Not many are instant successes, just as with people, although it has been known to happen – but with hard work and a little luck, many, over time, will become so. Our main articles for this newsletter take you through the stages of using IP to develop a successful business.
We hope that you find the hints and tips useful, do let us have your feedback on the newsletter, and please tell us what you would like us to cover in future issues. email your comments to us at Coller IP Jackie Maguire. CEO – June 2011
IP- Protecting a Business from Cradle to Grave
While not everyone who sets up a company intends to make it to the FTSE 100, most have a vision for what they are going to achieve from sometimes humble beginnings: several of the world’s greatest companies started in a back room or a garage. Sometimes an entrepreneur will set up a business with specific, high-growth targets and milestones in mind. A company is a little like a piece of music, or a novel, with a beginning, a development and, at some point, an ending. This can be a positive experience, as in the case of a profitable company sale to another organization, or perhaps not, as in the case of insolvency. However, having a brilliant IP strategy from the start of a company, throughout its lifecycle, whatever the ending, can make a really big difference in underpinning success and minimizing any downturns.
