Catering for all IP eventualities
It has been a busy year in the world of IP, with the publication in May 2011 of the independent review by Professor Ian Hargreaves on IP and growth in the UK, a bill in the USA which adopts the “first to file” principle, which is the system used by most other countries, and the European Council of Ministers formally approving plans to extend the term of copyright protection for performers in the EU to 70 years. Negotiations to create a pan-European patent system have accelerated over recent months, and could be finalised soon, which in turn has created strong debate about the location of the unified patent court and the downsides if it is not in the UK. In December, the UK Government also promises the results of its consultation on the Patent Box, generating further debate around which regime is the most tax efficient for IP holdings.
In a fast-changing business and IP landscape, many are looking at ways of streamlining their approach to IP. In this issue we look at some of our partners’ services that complement our work, and how we work together effectively to provide for all IP situations faced in business.

Insurance Cover for IP
Insurance to protect against IP disputes is emerging but is still not widely adopted by investors and entrepreneurs. Many see the potential power of it and believe that the right IP insurance policy would at least protect the value of a business and probably enhance it significantly. Coller IP reviews the debate and is looking for feedback. more
