Jim is the Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of Coller IP and provides practical business strategy services to a range of clients.
Jim has developed and leads the IP valuation services within Coller IP. He has worked for a range of clients, including investors, private companies, lawyers, insolvency practitioners and public-sector research bodies; his experience in IP valuations covers a range of purposes, from due diligence, investor positioning and licence negotiation, to corporate structuring, insolvency administration and probate. Types of IP valued include technology/patents, software, brands/Trade Marks and copyright material.
Jim also provides other services, ranging from consultancy targeted at helping clients to manage and drive innovation within their organisations, to licensing and drafting agreement terms. Using appropriate models and techniques, he helps clients to commercialise and realise the full value of their innovations, to develop strategies for IPl protection and to develop robust Intellectual Capital portfolios.
A physicist by background and a member of the Licensing Executives Society, Jim has over 30 years experience of technical and business innovation, business management and commercialisation in a range of industry sectors, including transport, utilities, electronics, automotive, engineering and software. Jim is an experienced operations and IP director having focused on commercialisation of an extensive patent portfolio and the development of a range of IP-based business processes.
Based on his experience, Jim is a strong advocate of the importance of a holistic approach to innovation for business and economic success – it’s not just about IP. He delivers effective training as an enthusiastic communicator and presenter and energetic workshop facilitator. His training and delivery experience extends from start-ups to large corporate companies, both in private industry and the public-sector.
